The award recognises excellence in food microbiology, especially among early-career professionals, and highlights the vital role of food microbiologists in ensuring a safe and sustainable food supply. The key eligibility criteria for the award are: • Early career professional - up to 10 years post Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) – Level 5–7 • Studying at an Australian University or TAFE OR employed in Australia within the field of food microbiology • Financial member of the AIFST or an affiliated professional body (such as IAFP or ASM) Finalists are selected based on a 500-word summary of a food microbiology topic.
