Presenter: Prof Pierre Pienaar

Prof Pierre Pienaar FAIP, CPP is the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) Education Director, the President of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and an expert consultant with over 35 years’ experience in the industry. Coming from the pharmaceutical industry where there is no room for error, Pierre established an impeccable standard for packaging solutions which filter through his approach. He has qualifications and experience in production management, material science, packaging technology and engineering. His packaging experience extends into purchasing, procurement, production lines, marketing, design, technical, supplier audits and specifications. He has extensive glass industry knowledge where it has been used on numerous occasions as an expert witness in legal cases.

Glass packaging which bottles, jars, ampoules and vials, has never been more popular as more brands and businesses are looking for more sustainable options to use in their products and packaging. The glass packaging market remains focused on sustainability and eco-friendly options for products.

Prof Pienaar will provide insights to the forming of glass and why we continue to use it so extensively material.

The presentation will explore the issues with glass but share some award-winning ideas in glass packaging.

Presenter: Pratik Surana

Pratik Surana Dip.Pkg.Tech. MAIP is a Packaging Technologist who has been working for Beerenberg Farm, South Australia for the past 9 years. Pratik has qualification and experience in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Packaging Technology. His packaging experience extends into developing and commercialising new packaging, supporting production with packaging and packaging machinery related issues, working on CAPEX’s and Quality Assurance system. Pratik also has attained a Diploma in Packaging Technology from the AIP.

Pratik’s presentation will share real life experience of a food manufacturer who uses glass packaging. How glass packaging is used and what are some of the watch outs. Steps that we have taken to mitigate our risks of using glass packaging and finally conclude with sustainability of glass packaging.
