So far, 2017 has been a fantastic year and it looks like it’s only getting better with the national convention next month in Sydney. In store for QLD members we have planned a factory tour at the only plant to produce gelatine in Australia in August (thanks to our friends at GELITA). Read event details here.
It has been a challenging few years for the AIFST while restructuring but I am pleased to see the fruits of many peoples hard work coming to bear. When I joined the AIFST in 2011 I was envious of my, shall we say, more experienced colleagues and their stories of raucous networking events, attended as young professionals, and the relationships developed that have gone on to enrich their professional careers. So it is with no small amount of excitement that I have watched the QLD Young Professionals Group (YPG) go from strength to strength and the formation of a national Young Professionals COI.
We had over 70 attendees at our recent careers night held in conjunction with the University of Queensland’s Food Science Club. This success has been mirrored in other states and is now supported by national initiatives like the Career webinar series.  Jana Cameron, one of our QLD committee members generously gave up her time to star in and share her expertise recently at the CV and Cover letter webinar in May.
I know many people share my belief that we all have a part to play in giving back to the sector and that it is essential we provide opportunities for young industry leaders; they are the future and we should all be filled with absolute optimism with the energy and positivity they are bringing to the institute. QLD members, we have a tight-knit supportive community so we would love to hear what you are working on and how we can best support you. Do get in touch.
