A growing number of consumers are becoming more concerned about where their food comes from and how it’s been produced. The next decade is likely to see the public’s interest in animal welfare increase.


In the consumer’s mind, high animal welfare standards are an important ethical consideration when shopping and dining out. Farmers, brand owners, retailers and restaurants are responding to growing consumer demands with more humanely farmed options available than ever before.


The RSPCA actively works with farmers to improve animal welfare at a farm level. We also talk directly to consumers, encouraging them to demand higher welfare food, which leads to improved farming practices. This webinar will describe some key consumer trends and how the RSPCA is working to increase the demand for humanely produced food through the RSPCA Approved Farming Scheme, Choose Wisely and campaigns


About the Presenter: 

As RSPCA Australia’s Humane Food Manager, Hope Bertram works behind the scenes with some of Australia’s biggest brands in order to improve farm animal welfare through their procurement policies. Hope manages the RSPCA’s Humane Food initiatives, such as the Approved Farming Scheme, an accreditation program focussed on better welfare for farm animals. Hope is passionate about giving farm animals a better quality of life and helps promote consumer awareness and education about more humane farming systems. Hope has a BA in Communications and has worked in the Not for Profit sector for the past 15 years and at RSPCA Australia for the past decade.
