TEAM LEADER - FOOD INNOVATION (SENIOR RESEARCH LEADER)

Working within Agri-Science Queensland you will lead the food innovation research team within the Agri-Food and Data Sciences (AFDS) research, development and extension (RD&E) business unit which advances food value-adding and innovation opportunities for Queensland’s Agriculture and Fisheries industries through pioneering research and development.

As a senior research leader, you will lead and shape research and development related to food innovation across the agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries industries. You will combine your enquiring mind, zest for creativity with your commercial awareness to keep abreast of the latest food and consumer trends, identifying opportunities to develop current product ranges that deliver long term market growth.

You will lead a dynamic team in the development and delivery of innovative food products (both manufactured and fresh) that are healthy, safe, trusted and sustainably produced.   Research and development encompasses all points within supply chains from live/fresh products through to processed and packaged products, providing innovation and practical tools for adding value to Queensland Agriculture and Food Industries.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

We are currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Insights Manager who will be an integral part of our Marketing & Innovation team, driving consumer, B2B and product development insights to stretch for ambitious results. 

About the role:

  • Interpret and communicate key findings and recommendations from primary research, with support from Head of Insights
  • Partner with sensory and perception research to interpret results in the context of impactful business decisions
  • Work closely with the Marketing, Innovation and Category teams to develop smart and actionable learning plans 
  • Identifying consumer behaviours and attitudes to assist with new product development and the ongoing improvement of current product range
  • Managing a complex research plan for a very active and engaged online community of passionate bakery consumers

Your research responsibilities will be focused on Sensory and product testing research, with the ability to step into related quantitative research as need be.

About you:

  • Effective communication and presenting skills
  • Experience with Q desired but not necessary
  • Experience in coding and product sample preparation for profiling desired
  • Eye-question or other sensory programs desired but not necessary
  • Strong business partnering skills to ensure delivery of business outcomes
  • Background in Market Research is highly desirable
  • Able to provide insights and quickly identify a way forward when presented with issues
  • Possess a dynamic and curious mindset

My name is Annelise, and I am a third year student at UNSW studying a Bachelor of Food Science and Technology. I am seeking to gain some hands on work experience in the industry to well equip me for when I graduate. I am keen learner who is fascinated by anything and everything food related. Surin Kitithongsopon 

I am a recent graduate in Food Science and Technology (Honours) from UNSW and looking for a volunteer work with a food processing or manufacturing company.  I have interests in finding new applications for existing but overlooked technologies, innovative product development using traditional and self-sustainable methods, in addition to quality control and assurance. In my Honours research, I worked with Gate Gourmet (Sydney) to research, develop and trial a novel approach to preparing Hollandaise and other emulsion base formulae, that enabled the stability of emulsion based sauces during freezing, thawing and heating and their use in frozen meals, that was also proved to be less expensive than established methods.  I have 15 years’ work experience as a flight attendant with Qantas that has equipped me to work effectively as a member of a multicultural, linguistically diverse team, as well as working alone and self-directed in a time sensitive environment.  Volunteer work in food processing, food science, food quality assurance or any food related sector would help me build work experience and the practical skills to enter the food industry. During the COVID-19 crisis, I am eagar to help by contributing my assistance, enthusiasm and skills to the various needs of our industry.


Collette Arnheim CV

Collette has a wealth of experience in health, fitness and food.  She is a qualified Dietitian and current food science student who is currently working within a coaching role in community health.

Collette is looking for work experience in the food industry, to gain some experience and use her transferable skills in changing career pathways. Collette is a skilled project worker is business minded having run her own business and has several years work experience to draw on. She has terrific communication and leadership skills, is a fast learner willing to put her best foot forward. Collette is also a keen foodie who is passionate about all food and can watch the cooking channel all day for inspiration on her next meal.
