A Food Technologist has a very important role in the food industry when
it comes to developing new consumer products.
It will be your job to take the concept for
a new food product and to research, develop and formulate it. You will
be involved in sensory testing, quality assurance, marketing and costing,
as well as liaising with clients.
Another challenging area is in developing new
ingredients like stabilisers, emulsifiers, gelatines, extenders or starch
with improved properties like digestibility, stability or taste.
Not only will you will need a sound understanding
of the technical aspects of food manufacture, but you will also have
to consider factors such as technology, convenience, media coverage,
regulation and global competition, which all impact the markets for
new products or food ingredients.
