The Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology is a national association representing individuals like you from all sectors of the Australian food and allied industries, giving you exposure to all aspects of the agrifood sector.
The Institute was founded in 1967 and is a member of the International Union of Food Science and Technology Organisations (IUFoST). It is managed by a National Council, and supported by State Branch Committees which are democratically elected from and by members on an annual basis. AIFST also hosts a variety of local and national special interest groups. Activities are supported by a National Office with full time staff.
AIFST has a strong reputation for facilitating food learning, networking and communication regardless of company size, industry segment or professional qualification.
AIFST continues to strive for improvement in all its functions, with the aim of maximising professional standing and opportunity for all its members.
Aims of the Institute
- To support improvement of the food supply and its use through science, technology and education
- To promote the standing, usefulness and welfare of its members' profession
- To encourage education, investigation and research in all aspects of food science and technology
- To secure for its members the advantages of co-operation and unity of action
- To serve the public need for knowledge in food science and technology especially in relation to public health and nutrition
- To promote a better public understanding of the role and importance of the profession of food science and technology
- To promote its code of ethics
- To organise and support conferences, discussions, lectures, meetings and the reading of papers on matters of interest or benefit to members of the institute.
