Organisations and individuals across Australia who help build the community’s understanding of science can now apply for a share of $5 million in funding to support their work.
Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, has announced the first Inspiring Australia; Unlocking Australia’s Potential competitive grants round that will allow successful applicants to run activities to help Australians engage in science.
This $5 million grants round will provide money to museums, universities, industry, local government, community and other organisations for activities that increase knowledge of science, and the benefits that science brings to everyday life in the community.
To be most effective and unlock our country’s full potential, these grants will boost schemes to reach Australians who, due to geography, ethnicity, age or social circumstances, might not have been interested or able to access or engage in science.
The aim of Inspiring Australia: Unlocking Australia’s Potential is to encourage connections between the Australian public and scientists and between researchers and their communities.
The successful projects will provide a mix of innovative science activities with a variety of delivery approaches, target audiences, geographical locations and topics. These projects will deliver a strengthened, cohesive and sustainable national program for science engagement.
A total of $5 million is available across 3 levels of grant categories, small, medium and large, for projects to be delivered in 2012 and/or 2013 and/or 2014.
Applications close on 29th February 2012. For more information, including applicant guidelines www.innovation.gov.au/InspiringAustralia
